It is an odd location to open a new restaurant, right in front of a row of buildings whose roofs have been blown off by artillery fire and whose walls are pockmarked by gunfire. But the new Rusi Restaurant in Paranthan town in Kilinochchi district here in the north of Sri Lanka, is all set to make big business in what was not so long ago a war zone.

Editor warned

Following his apology in court, the Supreme Court today warned and discharged the Editor of the Lanka Irida newspaper from the purported contempt of court charges and directed him to publish a correction against a news item which appeared in the paper in June.

But the signboards presently displayed in the archaeological site give a Sinhala name Kadurugoda for the site. The description boards in the site are entirely in Sinhala. Besides, the Archaeology Department has also translated the name Chu’n’naakam of the nearby town, from Tamil into Sinhala Hu’nugama, even though the latter was never in usage.

Indian FM coming

Indian External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said he would visit Sri Lanka by the end of this month to study the situation facing the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other issues.
